For their 5th outing of the Ligue 2 season the Girondins hosted Guingamp, this Saturday 27th August 2022 at 15:00 at the Matmut ATLANTIQUE.
With a crowd of 17,609 turning out to support the boys, referee Aurélien Petit got the game underway in perfect late-summer conditions. But Guingamp ruined the atmosphere almost immediately, scoring early on to leave the Girondins trailing by a goal for the first time this season (0-1, 6’).

In a hard-fought first half, Bordeaux did everything they could to hold onto the ball and find a crack in the visitors' defensive armour. Fransergio tried his luck with a shot from distance, but the Guingamp keeper had it covered (16’). David Guion's side looked to break down the flanks whenever possible, with Jacques Ekomié and Logan Delaurier-Chaubet peppering the box with crosses which never quite found any takers.
Just before the break, Josh Maja won a free kick in a very promising position. Tom Lacoux did the honours and floated a ball onto the head of Malcom Bokele, whose effort was just wide of the mark. The Girondins were still a goal down at half-time.

Neither coach made any changes at half time, and the match picked up where it had left off. Fransergio had another decent chance (56’), and Logan Delaurier-Chaubet also came close when he cut inside from the wing and fired off a shot from the edge of the box. Just wide of the post (65’).

With twenty minutes left to play, Guion sent on Alberth Elis, Emeric Depussay and Issouf Sissokho. The Girondins tried everything to level the scores, but the Guingamp defence was just too solid. The Bordeaux attacks kept coming, but the visitors looked comfortable now.
The Girondins fought all the way to the whistle, but just could not get the ball into the net. A first defeat of the season, Bordeaux 0 - 1 Guingamp.
