Girondins triumph over Metz ! [2-0]

On a sunny afternoon at the Matmut ATLANTQUE, the Girondins got the better of Metz thanks to goals from Josh Maja (45+1, pen) and Fransergio (90+2). Bordeaux remain atop the Ligue 2 table. On the day we celebrated the 141st anniversary of the club's foundation, David Guion's side made it a birthday to remember. The sight of players and fans celebrating together after the final whistle was something to behold. Bordeaux put in a serious, determined performance to earn this win. Dilan Bakwa had the first attempts on goal (10’), while Maiga tried his luck for the visitors (15’). A little later in the first half, both Fransergio and Vital Nsimba had shots turned away by Metz keeper Oukidja (26’). 

Clément Michelin came on to replace the injured Malcom Bokele in the 34th minute, and Dilan Bakwa came close again with a headed effort just before the break. The Girondins then won a penalty in stoppage time, and dedicated spot-kick specialist Josh Maja stepped up to work his magic (45+1, 1-0). 1-0 to Bordeaux ! Gaëtan Poussin had more to do in the second half, including saving a decent attempt from Ndoram (59’). David Guion made two rounds of changes: Zuriko Davitashvili and Issouf Sissokho made way for Alberth Ellis and Tom Lacoux (70’), then ten minutes later Dilan Bakwa and Josh Maja were replaced by Emeric Depussay and Aliou Badji (81’). As the second half entered injury time, Emeric Dupussay picked out Aliou Badji. The youngster charged down on the keeper, before laying the ball off for Fransergio at the last second. The Brazilian duly slotted home to seal the victory (90+2, 2-0) !  

Bordeaux were simply too strong for Metz, and the 20,000 fans who packed the stadium had plenty to celebrate on this anniversary afternoon. Bordeaux are top of Ligue 2, the Girondins march on!
