Aurélien Tchouaméni was delighted to be back in town this weekend to watch Bordeaux-Pau. We caught up with him at half-time to chat about his visit to the Girondins Academy and the work of his Prosperi Foundation.

girondins.com: Hello Aurélien, it's great to see you back in Bordeaux. You dropped in to the Academy earlier, your old stomping ground. How was it to meet the next generation?

Aurélien Tchouaméni: It was like coming home (smiles)! We had three days off after the last league game, so I thought it was a good opportunity to come back to Bordeaux. A bit of time at home before heading off to the World Cup. I went back to the Academy and it felt great, I met some of the people I was close to during my time here. Coming back to the stadium as a spectator feels a bit strange, but it's really cool to be back.

girondins.com: Your career has gone interstellar in the last few years, does coming back here give you a bit of perspective?

Aurélien Tchouaméni : Yeah it's funny because it feels like so much has happened, but I only left Bordeaux three years ago. I left the Girondins in January 2020 but somehow it feels like an eternity since I've been back. A lot has happened in the meantime, but I still love this club.

Aurélien Tchouaméni : Yes, we've created a new foundation called Prosperi. After all the help I had as a kid, I want to give something back. It's all about fighting inequality, making sure that kids have access to food, water and other resources. With the foundation I just want to give something back, and do my bit to make life better for people.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: Yes, much broader. With the help of my sponsors, I've sorted out my old club Artigues with new kits and training equipment for this season. It's just a little gesture, but it was great to see all those smiling kids.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: It's touching, it really is. Whenever I came back to Bordeaux with Monaco, I always got a warm welcome. Today I'm just here to watch and the crowd gave me an ovation, it's emotional. I feel honoured. I still follow the club, even though I live abroad. I watch the games whenever I can, the Girondins are having a good season!
