A comfortable victory over Dijon [2-0]

The game got off to the best possible start with a very early goal from Maëlle Garbino. The striker timed her run to the front post perfectly, connecting with Mickaëlla Cardia's cross to slot the ball past the keeper (2’, 1-0). Bordeaux were totally dominant in the opening exchanges, with Mickaëlla Cardia (6’), Ella Palis (8’) and Maëlle Seguin (26’) all narrowly missing chances to extend the lead.

Shortly after the half-hour mark Maëlle Garbino drew gasps from the crowd at Stade Sainte-Germaine with a magnificent move to slip past her marker and fire off a curling shot which ricocheted off the crossbar! Julie Dufour also rattled the woodwork shortly before the break (41’), but at half time the score was still Bordeaux 1 - 0 Dijon.

Patrice Lair's side returned from the break determined to convert their dominance into goals. The Girondines looked to have doubled their advantage when Melissa Gomes lodged the ball in the back of the net, only to see the goal disallowed for an apparent handball (54’). No matter, the real break came less than a minute later when Maëlle Seguin pounced on a poorly-cleared free kick to smash in Bordeaux's second goal (55’, 2-0).

Two goals to the good and totally dominant, the Girondines were content to control the rest of the game. One final shot from Melissa Herrera had the fans on their feet, but the Dijon keeper managed to tip it away for a corner (90’). The match ended Bordeaux 2-0 Dijon, a well-deserved victory for the Girondines after an entertaining and assured performance. The girls will be back in D1 action next Saturday 21 January in Reims, kick-off 13:45.
