The stadium was packed despite of the Arctic conditions on this Friday evening on the edge of the Pyrenees, and Bordeaux took control of the game from the first whistle. Aliou Badji (3’) and Dilane Bakwa (10’) had early chances, and it took fifteen minutes before Pau created anything for themselves. Proving themselves to be potentially tricky opponents, Didier Tholot's side would have took the lead if Gaëtan Poussin's right post hadn't intervened to deny Boisgard a dream start to his Pau comeback.

For ten minutes, Pau looked to be the better side... but this domination was short-lived. Bordeaux were soon back on the front foot, and Aliou Badji came close again (25’). The next chance proved to be decisive, when Vital Nsimba floated a peach of a cross onto the head of Malcom Bokele, who duly scored his first competitive goal for the Club (0-1, 33’). The Girondins saw out the rest of the first half comfortably, despite a clear and flagrant foul on Malcom Bokele which the referee did not even acknowledge.

Pau were not finished yet, and they had two decent chances on goal in the second half courtesy of Saivet (56’) and Begraoui (73’). Yoann Barbet and Gaëtan Poussin intervened to keep Bordeaux in the lead, while the Girondins continued to dominate in every other area. David Guion's side were firmly in control, and the midfield dominance was particularly striking. Dilane Bakwa came close with a shot of his own (63’), then played a lovely through ball for Issouf Sissokho who laid off for Aliou Badji to roll the ball into the open goal (0-2, 67’).

There were more chances still to come, and if truth be told Pau were lucky to get away with 2-0. Aliou Badji (75’, 80’), Danylo Ignatenko (88’) and Fransérgio (90’+1) all missed chance, but it's the result that counts: after disappointment against Le Havre, the Girondins demonstrated their quality, mental strength and ability to control the game, picking up three thoroughly well-deserved points.
