A massive win in Amiens ! [1-2]

The temperature was somewhere close to zero inside the Stade de la Licorne, but the Girondins hit the ground running and created some promising early chances. Yoann Barbet fired a free kick just over the bar (6’) and Dilane Bakwa nearly managed to sneak the ball past the keeper from a tight angle (13’).

The crowd were in fine voice and both sides showed plenty of energy and enterprise, but it was the hosts who drew first blood. When Cissé pounced to give Amiens the lead, the travelling Bordeaux fans were suddenly reminded just how cold it was this evening (17’, 1-0). On the pitch, however, the Girondins refused to let their heads go down. Aliou Badji would have equalised straight away but Amiens keeper Gurtner just managed to get his fingertips to the ball (18’). Galvanised by their goal, Amiens began to play a higher defensive line and stifle the Girondins in midfield. On the rare attacking opportunities they were able to create, Bordeaux found themselves frustrated by a disciplined and determined Amiens back four. The best moments came from the flanks, most notably a sweet cross from Vital Nsimba which found Fransergio in the box, setting him up for a header which Gurtner caught without too much trouble (44’).

The second half was every bit as hard-fought as the first, with both sides determined to stamp their authority on the midfield. David Guion's men threw everything they had into the search for an equaliser, while Amiens seemed equally keen to extend their lead. The result was a highly entertaining, end-to-end game. But gradually the Girondins began to have the upper hand, creeping ever closer to the Amiens goal. Gurtner momentarily saved the hosts with an exceptional snap save to deflect Josh Maja's close-range header, teed up by another absolutely perfect cross from Vital Nsimba (71’).

Bordeaux continued to surge forward down the wings, and eventually that tactic paid off. When the irrepressible Vital Nsimba swung in yet another peach of a cross, Aliou Badji rose to meet it with a powerful header that left the keeper stranded! (78’, 1-1) The game went right down to the wire, and it was another cross-header combo, this time Fransergio slamming home Clément Michelin's delivery, that allowed Bordeaux to snatch a vital winner in injury time! (90+1’, 1-2) What a performance from the Girondins, what a comeback! A superb result and the best possible way to prepare for the visit of Saint-Étienne, this Saturday 4 March at the Matmut ATLANTIQUE, kick-off 3pm.
