Youth team round-up

This Saturday 1st April, the Girondins Reserves made the short journey to Libourne for their 20th game of the National 3 season. Faced with the current Group A leaders, the youngsters fought hard from beginning to end. Unfortunately, that was not enough to get the better of this solid Libourne team - Elhadji Seck scored the only goal of the game in the 40th minute, consigning the Girondins to a 1-0 defeat. The Reserves' next game will be a home tie against US Lège-Cap-Ferret, this Saturday 8 April at 15:00 at Stade Alfred Daney (TBC).

This Sunday 2 April, the U19s travelled to Le Mans for their 22nd game of the league season. Coming off the back of a run of lacklustre results, the lads were clearly determined to turn things around. Their efforts were rewarded in the first half, with goals from Noa Megdad (0-1, 31’) and Enzo Grothe (0-2, 38’). After the break Sami Laabiss pulled one back for the hosts (1-2, 71’), but Troy Evans Essa Mvondo (at just 15 years of age) put the game to bed in the final minute (1-3, 90’). The U19s will be back in action on Sunday 16th April, taking on USSA Vertou at the Plaine du Haillan.

The U17s were in Lot-et-Garonne this weekend, travelling to face Marmande in their 22nd outing of the league season. The Marmandais took an early lead courtesy of Sofiane Achour (1-0, 22’), and that proved to be the only goal of the game. The U17s' next game will be against Nîmes Olympique, on Sunday 16 April on the Plaine de Jeux du Pinsan.

In this top-of-the-table clash in Excellence Group C, Guingamp narrowly got the better of the young Girondines. The last meeting between these two teams ended in stalemate (2-2), and this game looked to be going the same way until Loona André pounced in the 90th minute to seal victory and three precious points for Guingamp. This was the first defeat suffered by Romain Vitry's side in the Excellence round, but they remain top of Group C with 16 points, still 2 points ahead of Guingamp. Next up: Le Mans at Stade Galin, Sunday 16 April at 15:00.
