Bordeaux travelled to Guingamp for the final match in this 29th weekend of the Ligue 2 season, with the pressure of results elsewhere on their shoulders. The game got off to a tentative start, with Guingamp's Eboa Eboa creating an early chance from a corner (6’) before Gaëtan Poussin authoritatively shut down a one-on-one situation, only to see that the offside flag was already up (8’).

The breakthrough moment soon came for the Girondins. Josh Maja nicked the ball from Eboa Eboa and rolled off a peach of a pass for Fransérgio. The Brazilian midfielder was ready to pounce, firing in his 3rd goal of the season courtesy of Josh's 5th assist (0-1, 21’).
Bordeaux were in the ascendancy now, looking to make the break. Josh Maja saw two shots blocked (28’, 40’), and Stian Gregersen also had a header on target (30’). Bordeaux were ahead at the break and clearly in charge of the game, with 65% possession.

The second half got off to a slightly scrappy start, with few coherent movements but plenty of fouls from both sides. The Girondins probably deserved the three yellow cards they picked up, but it was a mystery that the hosts only received one.
Still trailing by that first-half goal, EAG finally turned up the pressure as the end approached. Fortunately for us, Gaëtan Poussin was ready and waiting for them. Celebrating his 50th appearance for the Girondins, the keeper stepped up to catch a very troublesome cross (69’). Yoann Barbet also cleared a shot off the line (78’), before Gaëtan pulled off another spectacular save, this time with his left hand (78’).

Bordeaux restore their dominance in the final minutes, with Aliou Badji enjoying two late chances on goal. The first was blocked (88’), but the second (created by a Zuriko Davitashvili cross) beat Guingamp keeper Basilio (90’+3) only to ricochet off the woodwork.
In a hard-fought and at times bitter encounter, the Girondins showed themselves to be solid and pragmatic. They remain in 2nd place, two points ahead of Metz and four ahead of Sochaux. The boys will be back in action next Saturday against outside promotion hopefuls Bastia, another big challenge for David Guion's team.
