A gorgeous spring afternoon, 30,000 fans and a top of the table clash to savour: all of the pieces were in place for a great afternoon of football at the Matmut ATLANTIQUE. And that's exactly what we got! Bastia set out their stall early on, with Kaïboué going in hard on Fransérgio (2’). The visitors had the first chance, but Yoann Barbet cleared a dangerous cross with calm and poise (15’). Minutes later, Van Den Kerkhof skipped past three of our defenders before he was stopped (18’).

This bright start from Bastia was deceptive, because after fifteen minutes it was all one-way traffic in Bordeaux's favour. Dilane Bakwa (24’) and Alexi Pitu (25’) had the first chances. Skill, speed, tactical flexibility: David Guion's were on scintillating form this afternoon, and were soon rewarded for their efforts. Fransérgio recovered the ball inside the Bastia half and immediately picked out Josh Maja. Maja's first touch was magnificent, dinking it out of reach of Ndiaye then slipping past him with ease. The defender hauled him down, and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Josh did the honours himself (1-0, 37’), scoring his 13th goal of the season.

The Girondins doubled their lead just before the break, from another great piece of link-up play. Malcom Bokele broke free down the right wing and laid the ball off for Dilane Bakwa, who pulled off a great little dummy before whipping the ball in to Fransérgio at the front post (2-0, 47’).

Bordeaux were comfortably in control of the game in the second half, but resisted the temptation to rest on their laurels. Magri had a rare chance for the visitors (55’), but the most exciting moments came from the Girondins' quest for a third goal: Alexi Pitu (61’), Zuriko Davitashvili (72’) and Logan Delaurier-Chaubet (79’) all came close. Bordeaux were firmly in charge of affairs as the end approached, but the pent-up tension finally exploded in an ugly incident just before the final whistle. A member of the Bastia coaching staff was shown a red card, and a scuffle broke out among the players. Malcom Bokele and Alfarela were both sent off, in an unedifying ending unworthy of this superb performance.

Bordeaux put three more points in the bank after a very good performance. They can now sit back and await results from elsewhere, with one eye on next week's all-important trip to Metz.
