On a sunny bank holiday weekend, the Girondins defeated Caen 1-0 in their 34th game of the Ligue 2 season. Zuriko Davitashvili got the only goal of the game in the first half, and the boys held on for three points which may yet prove to be crucial in the race for promotion. When the final whistle sounded, it was hugs and relieved smiles all round from the Girondins. Captain fantastic Yoann Barbet went round the whole team celebrating three more precious points. The whole team then assembled to share this victory with the fans, a hard-earned moment of communal joy.

The turning point came in the 16th minute, when Zuriko Davitashvili neatly-taken goal set the stadium alight (1-0). The Georgian international's fourth goal in Ligue 2 capped off a bright, attacking start from the Girondins. The challenge now was to remain vigilant and focused, something Bordeaux did with aplomb: Caen created no meaningful chances in the first half. The closest they came to goal was a probing run cut short by Stian Gregersen (29'), and a tentative lob from somewhere near the half-way line by ex-Girondin Alexandre Mendy (27'). At the other end, Vital NSimba saw his chance fly wide of the mark (21').

The second half was somewhat harder for the Girondins, but their hard work and determination in defence was impressive to see. Yoann Barbet fired a free kick into the wall (57'), and Josh Maja had a promising effort blocked by the Caen keeper (60'). Back up the other end, Gaëtan Poussin pulled off a stunning double save to preserve our slender lead (67'). Gaëtan Poussin had more work to do in the final minutes, acquitting himself superbly to see off another well-placed shot (80'). With the soaring temperature beginning to take its toll, David Guion made a flurry of substitutions in the second half. Tom Lacoux made way for Danylo Ignatenko, then Josh Maja and Dilan Bakwa went off for Alexi Pitu and Aliou Badji (70'). Zuriko Davitashvili also came off late on,  with Johaneko Louis-Jean taking his place.
