Agony in Annecy [1-0]

When the final whistle sounded, the looks of crushing disappointment on our players' faces said it all. The Girondins had kept on pushing until the very end, with both Danylo Ignatenko and Josh Maja seeing late efforts denied by Annecy's inspired goalkeeper (76' & 90'). The final minutes were painful to watch, with Bordeaux desperately looking for a way through the massed ranks of Annecy players.

At the start of the second half, Gaëtan Poussin produced two huge saves in quick succession to deny Testud (46') and Bosseti (49'). The Girondins were chasing that elusive equaliser, but Dilane Bakwa and Josh Maja put their shots wide of the mark (53' & 65'). Annecy keeper Escales made an exceptional save to block another effort from Maja (69'), and a few minutes later Aliou Badji sent another one wide. All because Bordeaux were caught napping by Annecy in the 9th minute. Pajot popped up at the back post to score the goal, stunning the Girondins (1-0). They soon regrouped and reset, with a superb movement involving Fransergio and Dilane Bakwa which culminated in Zuriko Davitashvili heading over the bar (20'). Ten minutes after that, Gaëtan Poussin pulled off a magnificent save to deny Bosseti (30').

The scoreboard remained stubbornly fixed at 1-0, as the Girondins stumbled at the penultimate hurdle in the long race for promotion. Everything rests on next Friday's match against Rodez, kick-off 20:45 at the Matmut Atlantique. Our boys need to win and hope that either Metz or Le Havre drop points.  Your support will be absolutely crucial, as it has been all season.   Allez Bordeaux!
