A welcome win over Amiens [2-0]

The game got off to a tentative start as both sides eased their way into gear. Gaétan Weissbeck had the first shot on goal, but Amiens keeper Gurtner got down well to stop the ball (10’).

The visitors soon responded in kind, with Kakuta launching a darting run into box but failing to trouble Rafal Straczek with his shot (14’).

As the game progressed the chances continued to pile up for Bordeaux, with Gaétan Weissbeck (30’) and Aliou Badji (31’) both coming close.  As the first half entered stoppage time, Clément Michelin floated a corner to Zan Vipotnik at the back post, but Gurtner intervened again to stop the goal-bound header (45+1).

David Guion's side emerged for the second half with a renewed sense of purpose, and their industriousness soon paid off. Captain Yoann Barbet embarked on a long run, slicing through the Amiens defence before laying off for Zan Vipotnik, who duly smashed in his first goal for the Girondins! (1-0, 47')

Within ten minutes that lead had been doubled, thanks to another debut goal! After a first attempt from Pedro Diaz, the ball fell to Gaétan Weissbeck and the new boy sent it straight into the back of the net (2-0, 56’).

The last half hour was played at an impressive pace, with Bordeaux playing high up the field and stringing together some impressive attacking movements, although that third goal remained just out of reach. In the 77th minute Vital Nsimba floated the ball onto the head of Zan Vipotnik, who beat Gurtner only to see the ball bounce back of the crossbar. Amiens kept pushing until the very end, but the Girondins back four were on fine form this afternoon, keeping another clean sheet and securing three vital points. The boys will be back in action next Saturday 2 September against Auxerre, kick-off 3pm at the Matmut ATLANTIQUE.
